Hon Joel-Onowakpo Thomas Honoured As Sococovid Ambassador, Signed National Covid-19 Support Register

The immediate past Coordinator of Edo, Delta and Rivers States in the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, amongst others has been honoured as a Soccovid Ambassador by the Society Committee Against Covid-19 (SOCCOVID) due to his commitments and consistent roles he is playing to help stem the pandemic that is ravaging the peaceful existence of humanity.

Hon Joel-Onowakpo Thomas who is presently in the USA connected through the ZOOM application to virtually participate in the ceremony but was represented by his personal assistant, Mr Edafewotu Endurance who signed the National Covid-19 Support Register on his behalf. His appendage of his signature to the register signifies his relentless effort towards standing in the gap to save humanity in the fight against the monstrous disease.

In the opening speech by the The National Coordinator, Society Committee Against COVID-19, Dr. Kenneth Ibe-Kalu, he said SOCOCOVID has recognised the roles, kind contributions and substantial supports that notable Nigerians have played in corroborating the efforts of the Presidential task Force on COVID-19. The combined efforts of both Non-Governmental Organisations and the private sectors during this period of Coronavirus pandemic has been overwhelming.

According to the National Coordinator, Society Committee Against COVID-19, Dr. Kenneth Ibe-Kalu, ‘’our organisation is not ignorant of the your substantial contributions and programmes organized to educate and sensitize Nigerians on the various dangers COVID-19 pose to our existence which has formed a major rallying point of eradicating the disease from Nigeria.”

Dr Kenneth Ibe-Kalu further stated that, “SOCOCOVID is a non-governmental organisation that is putting resources together in the critical response to flatten the curve of the spread of the deadly pandemic called COVID-19.”

“SOCOCOVID is among the first Non-Governmental groups to pay fines for release of five (5) inmates from Suleja Correctional Detention Centre in line with the decongestion order of President Buhari and re-unite them with their families.”

Hon Joel-Onowakpo Thomas thanked the National Coordinator, Dr Kenneth Ibe-Kalu and the members of the SOCOCOVID for the rare privilege to be honoured as a Sococovid Ambassador. An ambassador to help promote the existence of human race by lending supports, love and care when it is most needed.

In a keynote address by the Minister of Women affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen, she expressed her gratitude to the organization for the great initiative to undertake such a laudable idea. In a plea, she solicited with everyone to support them and to always remember to adhere to the COVID-19 protocols at all times while also admonishing all participants to lend a helping hand to the less privileged Nigerians in this critical time.

Other recipients of the Sococovid Ambassadorial Award whom signed the Covid-19 Support Register are the Director-General of the National Council for Arts and Culture and President, World Crafts Council, African Region, Otunba Segun Runsewe and Chief Emmanuel Oritsejolomi Uduaghan who was ably represented by High Chief (Mrs) Edhekpo Uyoyou.

Dr Kenneth Ibe-Kalu added that in signing the National COVID-19 Support Register and being decorated as Sococovid Ambassador, the awardees are sending the message of the vital roles they played and are still playing to rid off covid-19 pandemic from our society completely.

The Register when launched shall be displayed in the National Assembly, State Assemblies, Tertiary Institutions, National Archives, Foreign Embassies and High Commissions in Nigeria, Nigeria Foreign Missions abroad and in Diaspora Chapters
